Musician Showcase: Peter Shonerd

Peter Shonerd has been a mainstay of my stage performances and studio recordings for over 40 years. Built on a solid foundation of creativity, professionalism, unique stylings, and a genuine love for his instruments, he has distinguished himself as a premier percussionist in our generation of players.

His part in our collaborations…in all of their diversity…brings an energy and atmosphere and fun that only his experience can provide. The fact that he is my long-time friend makes it all perfect.

It all started with sitting in with Cam and me. Over four decades…as the groups evolved into their own sounds…and came and went…Peter was always up for a new approach…adding new instruments to his arsenal of sounds...and expanding his expertise into new genres, arrangements, and associations.

He has been the percussionist for Tom Farley and Cam Head, The Tom Farley-Cam Head Band, The Tom Farley Band, The High Energy Acoustics Band, The Moondogs, Wall and Frye, One Hot Mess, Thom and Pete, Tom Farley and Friends, and has sat in on my solo gigs from time to time. He was with these groups when they opened for Poco and Firefall…jammed with Clarence Clemons with The Tom Farley-Cam Head Band, and opened for the TFAM Concert with Tom Farley and Friends. While his interpretations for cover tunes were always excellent, his work on my original music was exceptional; I can’t imagine another player serving those songs better than Peter. His studio and live performances on the “By the Fence in the Sun” album and “The High Energy Acoustics Band: First Take” live album were stellar…soft ballads to hard rockers…and co-anchoring two of the best rhythm sections I’ve ever known.

Peter lives and works in Northern Virginia with his wife, Lisa. His reputation and performance history there is substantial…respected by all those in his circle. My hope is that we will continue to explore music together as the years pass. If the past is any indication, it can only get better with age….
